The National Disability Insurance Scheme consists of four basic components:

  • individualised packages;
  • information, linkages and capacity building;
  • informal supports; and
  • mainstream systems…

but where do these components lead?

The most forgotten document in the transition to the NDIS is the National Disability Strategy.

This document was developed by Government in consultation with people with disabilities, the community, State and Territory Governments and the Australian Local Government Association and is the document to which the NDIS points to achieve its outcomes. The strategy covers the period 2010-2020 and has bipartisan political support.

Every organisation providing supports to people with disabilities needs to understand the content of this document and use it as part of its strategic development.
